In 2015, NECTAR commissioned an online survey of all ECAs at ANU to learn about their experiences and opinions and identify their needs. While many of the results of the survey were somewhat expected, e.g. job insecurity was identified as the main challenge facing ECAs, some results proved to be of great value to NECTAR and ANU. For example, mentoring was identified as having a positive impact on ECA's satisfaction with their employment and their stress levels. As a result of this finding, NECTAR is currently delivering the ANU NECTAR Mentoring Program 2018!
In March 2019, NECTAR will launch a longitudinal study extending the 2015 survey and adding the aspect of mental health of ECAs. NECTAR is currently seeking input from all relevant groups on campus regarding other aspects to be addressed in this survey (contact NECTAR).
