Inaugural ANU NECTAR Mentoring Program 2018-19

Supported by all ANU Colleges and University House.

"This is the best career-development opportunity that has presented itself in a while." (Mentee in the 2018 Mentoring Program)

Who are the participants

In total, 102 Mentee-Mentor pairs participated in the 2018 Program. More than 60% of these mentoring relationships were cross-College.

Mentoring relationships in the inaugural ANU NECTAR Mentoring Program 2018. Octagons represent Research Schools and stars represent College Deans. Lines represent mentoring relationships; thickness of the line is proportional to the number of mentoring relationships between the respective nodes.

How was the matching done

Mentees were invited to submit three Mentor nominations after reviewing the Mentor profiles. Mentees were then matched by a committee comprising the NECTAR staff and representatives from all Colleges based on their nominations and needs as Mentees. 85% of Mentees who submitted nominations were matched with one of their nominated Mentors.

The inaugural ANU NECTAR Mentoring Program is a collaboration with the Joint Colleges of Science who developed the Program over three years. Well-received in science, this Program was for the first time open to all disciplines through NECTAR in 2018.

NECTAR is working closely with all Colleges to develop this Program to suit the needs of Mentees and towards the ANU strategic goal to "lead in mentoring and retention of academic staff".
